Fertility
Fertility is a mature body’s capability of procreating. Most of all, the absence of offspring in a couple is due to the infertility of a marriage partner. According to the WHO, apart from low birth rates, countries all over the world have been showing an increase in the quantity of infertile couples caused by reproductive system pathology in one of marriage partners in 40-50% cases. Beside infertility that is subject to treatment, fertility disorders in rare cases may result from extremely frequent sex intercourses (coitus) that leads to a drastic fall of spermatozoa and a prevalence of its non-mature forms in the ejaculate, which leads to a decrease of possibility to fertilize an ovum; practicing prolonged and non-completed sex intercourses that eventually results in disorders of reproductive and copulative functions, etc.
Pre-conditions for a normal impregnation are as follows: leading a sex life without applying contraceptives, keeping to a physiologic rhythm in sex intercourses, absence of sexual disorders, withdrawal from alcohol drinks during a sex life that provides for a prophylaxis and treatment of inflammatory diseases of genital organs, inadmissibility of harmful chemical and physical affect on the body. A couple suffering from fertility disorders undergoes a medical examination, then, basing on the causes preventing from a normal impregnation, an optimal way of fertilizing the ovum is selected, including an artificial insemination of a female.
Major conditions for a successful impregnation are as follows: A cyclic release of an ovum from the follicle (ovulation); a sweeping of the mature ovum into the fallopian tube; providing favorable conditions for the fusion of male and female germ cells in the fallopian tube and implantation of a zygote in the endometrium. A sufficient quantity of active spermatozoa in the ejaculate concentrated in a close proximity with a cervical canal; favorable conditions in the vesical cervix and uterine body providing an active movement of spermatozoa to fallopian tubes.
